NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 6

November sweeps have begun.  Nothing substantial this week for sweeps, though.  I'm sure they're saving the big stuff for the Thanksgiving episodes.  I'm afraid they only went one for three this week.  It was bound to happen eventually, and it's better than all three being misses.

Community - "Advanced Gay"
The first episode of this season that for the most part I didn't like.  I liked what they were trying to do with Father issues and most specifically Jeff's, and somewhat Pierce's.  It's nice when they link Jeff being a younger version of Pierce, but things just didn't work for me.  Worst of all, Pierce's father was way too over the top.  This show has never shied away from craziness, but that ivory hair was weird, and not in a good way.  It did give us some good gags with Mr. Hawthorne being the "Abed" of racism, Britta constantly mispronouncing "Oedipal" as "edible," and Pierce accidentally saying gay things.  The conclusion of Jeff kind of killing Mr. Hawthorne was what really turned me off.

On to the other half of the episode.  Troy's story of picking up from his "Good Will Hunting" plumbing episode with being recruited by the Air Conditioning Repair Annex was great.  The spaceman making panini and black Hitler being there so that no one would believe them if they told the story was Community pulling out the weird in a wonderful way.  It was also great to have John Goodman back.  Him reciting the history of air condition repair and showing Troy the room temperature room were delivered in that wonderful baritone seriousness that made it all the more funny.  It looks like he'll be back to keep trying to get Troy, and I can't wait.

Parks and Recreation - "End of the World"
This show knocks another one out of the park, possibly the best episode of the season so far.  The main point of the episode was moving us past the Leslie-Ben break up.  We all know they had the best breakup in the history of breakups, but that still means it doesn't hurt, especially because they still want to be together.  We dealt with Ben's side of things during Treat Yo Self.  Now Leslie has to move on.  It was played well, as always, by Amy Poehler and Adam Scott.  His addition to the cast in the end of season two has really been amazing (that was when the great streak began).  Having this whole drama unfold with the backdrop of a crazy cult thinking it's the end of the world made it even better.

Tom and Jean-Ralphio throwing the parties to end all parties was a fun time.  It showed that Tom is capable at what he set out to do, just horrible at the business side of things.  It was nice to see Natalie return, hopefully we'll be seeing more of her.  Every single thing about the Andy and April story put a big smile on my face.  I didn't think it was possible, but the smile got even wider when it was revealed they drove to the Grand Canyon.  It was a great emotional moment, that was turned funny by Andy wondering where the president's heads were.

The Office - "Doomsday"
Not that great of an episode.  The story was kind of blah and I can't recall off the top of my head any good gags.  Dwight was over the top with his doomsday machine and Andy should have known better to go along with it in the first place, especially since he knew the conditions before he let it be instituted.  The wrap-up to that was nice, but anti-climatic.  The thing Darryl had with ex-wife was dropped and now he's after the same warehouse girl as Gabe.  Then that was dropped after we got to see Gabe be a douche for a while, not good.  About the only thing I really liked was the return of Stanley's "Shove it up your but!"
