Terra Nova - 1x07 - Nightfall

Another week another blah episode.  This show is such a disappointment week in and week out.  This week an exploding meteor caused an EMP that wipes out all the electronics in Terra Nova.

Boring.  That's the best way to describe this episode.  Late's look at the various plots.  Maddy and Mark (soldier guy, had to look up his name) get stuck outside for night and all we get is a kiss.  No long talks about, I don't know, anything at all.  We still know zero about this guy except a cute story about what he wanted to be when he was little.  I've complained about this in the past, but in this boring episode it stood out even more that this guy is just plain boring.  The writers couldn't be bothered to let them have a talk about his backstory when they were stuck in a tree all night?

Jim and Zoe are stuck in some simulation room.  Besides not being compelling, this plot just opened up a whole lot of questions.  Why does this room even exist?  It's like a watered down holodeck, but I really can't see it serving any purpose when they're trying to sustain a prehistoric colony.  And the reason the Shannons had Zoe was that they didn't care about the law, they were just going to have another kid?  Even if Jim wasn't a cop, this would be stupid.  I suppose you wouldn't tell a five year old anything but that, it just seemed like a middle finger to anybody who has stepped back to ask that question.

Elisabeth and Skye have to perform a operation on same random dude who is friends with Skye and I think was in the first episode.  When Elisabeth handed over the duty of extracting the parasite to Skye and literally laughed at the craziness of it.  Not only was it strange for Skye to even be there during a surgery, but then to have her assist in any way is just too far out there.  There were no life threatening injuries in that infirmary, and whomever that guy was that came in, there must be some other doctor that could see to him.  Funnily enough, without a trained professional, something goes wrong, but when they get the chip for the superscience bed, everything's fine, it's dead.  Ugh.

Now onto the few things I liked.  The bar guy, Boylan, I like him.  It's nice to have someone playing a shady, but fun, character.  I was intrigued by him saving Taylor's life even though he works with the Sixers sometimes. The spinosaurus charging the gate was very cool.  It's nice to see them using dinosaurs on this dinosaur show, sometimes they forget.  The introduction of Lucas, Taylor's son, was handled well after teasing us in the pilot.  I thought they gave too much right away, which may be why this is the first we've come back to that since then.  He seems to be working for the same future people that the Sixers are working for.  Why he's off on his own most of the time instead of with them is a mystery.  I'm hoping he turns out to be the leader of the future people.
I hope things pick up next week.
