NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 18

I suppose overall solid is a good way to describe the night.  30 Rock was meh, Parks and Rec was good, and The Office did okay.

30 Rock - "Alexis Goodlooking and the Case of the Missing Whiskey"
Just a so-so episode.  I like that there is movement with Kenneth's new job.  It's been really good to see him in a new setting because that character had gotten stale a while ago.   Jack giving out business lessons is always a great use of his character.  Stanley Tucci was way underused in his guest role, though.  The rest of the stories I didn't really care about.  Susan Sarandon returned as Frank's old teacher/current girlfriend, but wasn't particularly funny this time.  The dating a woman to cover something is an old trope and they didn't make it anywhere near absurd enough to justify using it.  The Jenna and Tracey story was just fluff.  I've never liked it when they pair those two together, they both need someone more sane to play off of.

Parks and Recreation - "Campaign Shake-up"
Good episode here.  Kathryn Hahn was great as Bobby Newport's new campaign manager.  The way she was such heads and tails above what the competition had been before was good for our characters that have been coasting so far in campaign.  I loved the way that she got into their heads by helping them.  Ben and Leslie talking circles about how she would know that they know was fun to watch, very Princess Bride.  Now Carl Reiner was awesome in his short guest appearance, 30 Rock should take notes.  The rest of the gang got to solve the disgusting water fountain spout engulfing habit of Pawneeans.  Water balloon fights are never not fun, and it looked like they were having a great one.  Highlights were Tom's "everything I'm wearing is suede" and Andy's kamikaze attack.  In the end, we see some more character development from April, who is slowing becoming an adult.  Her and Andy's development this year has been phenomenal, small increments make it so much more believable.

The Office - "Test the Store"
A pretty slight episode overall.  No great laughs, and just a little bit of character work.  Dwight finally gets the VP job over Packer, which was pretty much a foregone conclusion.  Ryan not being able to give the speech did give him something to do besides be a douchbag, so that was a small plus.  There was some more talk about Andy and Eric, which I don't care about anymore, and Jim giving the speech at the end was nice work from Krasinski.  On the home front, Andy getting hit by a girl was suppose to be silly funny, but was instead just silly, and reminiscent of bad Michael plots in the past.  The only part of the episode that really made me laugh was Creed jumping up, smacking Meredith's head, screaming, and running out.
