NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 17

This is an all time low for me, posting in timely manner wise, at least. These episode aired over a month ago and I'm just now getting to writing about them. I've been slacking off on my writing big time this past month, but no more. Game of Thrones is returning soon and I've got to step up my game.

Community - "Paranormal Parentage"
A step up from last week, but still not the same old Community. It never will be, but this shows promise that the new guys can still do good work. You knew it was going to end up being an elaborate prank by Pierce, it had to be, but it was still fun to see the characters exploring the house. The best paring was Jeff and Britta where she actually got to be good at something for once. She goes about it in her own Britta way, but she's the reason Jeff dialed that phone in that final scene. Other highlights include Troy's ignorance of the special gym, Abed commenting that the show used to be about community college, and Annie now being a fan of Cougar Town (yay Cougar Town!). The ending then gave us a nice emotional beat with the return of Giancarlo Esposito. All in all, a well done episode.

Parks and Recreation - "Emergency Response"
A nice look at Leslie's character and how she has evolved since the first season. She has planned and planned for this moment, to finally pass a emergency response inspection, but she tanks it immediately when it's the only way to let the park fundraiser go on. The Leslie of season one would somehow bully her way into a win, but the Leslie of now knows that some things need to be sacrificed for the greater good. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang needs to band together to get the gala up and running. The greatest of which is Ron on Pawnee Today taking over the show and doing a wonderful job of it. Andy and April are off trying to get Andy into the police academy and, in a twist, Andy aces the written version, but fails the personality test. I'm extremely curious where this is going because I think this is the first time a character on this show has failed at getting their dream. Then the ending, Leslie and Ben are getting married now, and by "now" I mean next week.  To be continued...

The Office - "Moving On"
Ugh, Andy, just ugh. Different comedies have different aesthetics. When I'm watching Always Sunny or Archer, I'm laughing at the horrible things these people do. On Cougar Town or Parks and Recreation, I would hate it if characters started acting like despicable people. The Office falls into the latter category and Andy is delving further and further into being despicable. And it was a whole hour of Andy being horrible to the couple we've been made to root for this whole season. Luckily, the rest of the show was passable to great. The highlight was the Jim and Pam story with Bob Odenkirk playing a boss exactly like Michael and doing a splendid job of it, and then the wonderful dinner scene where Pam reveals she doesn't want to move to Philly. Dwight and Angela have a nice visit to Dwight's aunt, but it's obviously a set up for the episode that was suppose to be the backdoor pilot of the Dwight spin-off The Farm. Finally, Toby and the strangler was mostly just fluff to fill out the hour. The tag was very intriguing, it looks like the documentary that this crew has been filming for nine years it finally going to premiere.
