NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 24

I'm back! I was never really gone, just busy, and didn't really feel like writing for a while. That's the problem with not being paid to do something, it can sometimes fall behind in other priorities. In any case, I'm going to try to catch up over the next few days. Just a fair warming, these may be even sparser than usual due to just plain forgetting things.

Community - "Intro to Felt Surrogacy"
Now here's an episode that feels like vintage Community. Weird premise, some songs, good character work, laughs, all here. There's even a strange cameo by Jason Alexander. The real fun of the episode is being able to see the study group members as puppets, and you could tell the cast was having a lot of fun with it. It also gave them license to some things that normally wouldn't have worked on their budget with live actors, like the hot air balloon ride. Pierce was noticeably absent from the live action scenes, so this must be one of the non-Chevy episodes. The character work was top notch, too, with the dark secrets that most of the group has been keeping in. All in all, great episode.

Parks and Recreation - "Animal Control"
Another solid outing from the Parks and Rec crew. Nothing spectacular or emotional, just a half hour that made me laugh. Not a dud in the bunch this week, but the stand out was Leslie trying to fix the Animal Control department. I could watch those two guys be high together for the entire episode. This story also does a good job at the continuing story of April. Andy may have stalled in his dreams, but April is still moving forward with the maturation process. The Fienstien story never really went anywhere, but it was fun to watch Ben, Tom, and Andy try to wrangle some money out of this horrible douchebag. Meanwhile, Ron being sick is one of those things you can throw out there at anytime and it will always be funny. The way he got along with the gruff doctor was wonderful, and him paired with Ann has usually given great results.

The Office - "Stairmaggedon"
Forgive my SAT wording but, Stanley:fat, lazy jokes::Kevin:stupid, fat jokes. Take one thing about a character and completely blow it out of proportion over years, bankrupting the character. At least Stanley isn't as bad as Kevin. Kevin used to be not so bright, that's since become borderline mentally handicapped. I liked how Stanley being nice for once (because he was drugged), is what helped them land the sale, but everything up to that point in that storyline was ridiculous and way too over the top. Andy's quest to be in show business has potential, he's always loved performing, but so far has been pretty stupid. At least, Andy's acting pretty stupid. No one thinks you can just call agencies and they'll take you on as clients, seriously? Once again, the entire episode is saved by Jim and Pam marital troubles. I liked the two of them unloading their grievances on Toby and Nellie, but is it just me or does Jim not really have a leg to stand on here? While the humor on the show rarely works anymore, I'm glad that it can at least garner an emotional response through this storyline. I expect everything to work out in the end, but the journey has been pretty good so far. Just no love triangle with the boom guy, okay.
