NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 25

No Office this week, but don't worry, Community wasn't that great so there's still something for me to complain about.

Community - "Intro to Knots"
The annual Christmas episode...in April. Got to love network rescheduling. Just not a very good episode. Things got interesting when Professor Cornwallis started playing head games, but not nearly enough. At least Malcolm McDowell seems to fit into this world better than Michael K. Williams did, but still not to the level of most of the other big name guest stars, especially John Goodman. Now that we know Chang is faking his Changnesia and plotting against Greendale, anything he does just seems fake. It was a nice touch that Shirley is also vying for the valedictorian spot, and the Die Hard shirt was cool. It's just the rest of the episode left me cold. After the puppet episode, I was hoping things were turning around, it's just that kind of an up and down season this year. Also, no Chevy again this week.

Parks and Recreation
"Article Two"
Man, I love Patton Oswalt. I wish he could guest star on all of my favorite shows. Come to think of it, he kind of has (just a quick rundown: Community, Justified, Futurama, Bob's Burgers, United States of Tara, Caprica, and upcoming on The Newsroom). The outdated laws are a great starting point for the craziness that is Pawnee, and with so many statutes in states that make no sense in the real world, they didn't have to stretch the truth much. Patton plays the bumbling, sincere nerd so well, and his entire filibuster (sadly cutdown, but available in full here) is a beautiful thing to behold. Leslie's not a woman who likes to lose, but she knows when to do the right thing. She is, however, a woman that is crazy about anniversaries and gifts. Ben and Ann trying to compete for the best present was a great subplot. The best part was Ben breaking out his Game of Thrones knowledge on Ann. The Ron, Chris, and April plot was not nearly as good, but I did enjoy that April was playing them the entire time.

"Jerry's Retirement"
Oh, Jerry, always the fool. The contrast between Jerry's home life and work life will never not be funny to me. I can't believe Leslie didn't like the eggs, bacon, and toast song, though, that's right up her alley! Jerry's life goals were so modestly pathetic, and he still wasn't able to complete those. I'm glad at the end they made it clear that even though he didn't achieve the goals he set out to achieve, he has a family that he loves and that loves him, and that's the most important thing in his life. It's fun to see Jerry get busted on, but in the end this is still the sweet show we all love. Tom becoming the new Jerry was amazing. Exasperated Tom is the funniest Tom. Once again Ron shows he really does care for these people in bring Jerry back in to the fold to alleviate Tom's suffering. Of course, it also helped Ron to solve his intern problem.
