NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 14

Back to the usual line-up this week.  Strangely we only get one Valentine's Day episode, that's usually a holiday sitcoms love to do.

30 Rock - "Today You Are a Man"
So-so episode.  As usual, the Jack-Liz stuff being the strongest.  Them trying to out-Jack each other was a classic 30 Rock stretching of reality, taken to the logical extreme with Jack negotiating with himself.  Also, who can't resist a good masturbation joke (Jack-off)?  The Kenneth story wasn't bad, mostly because of Kristen Schaal.  It will be interesting to see if they'll actually go through with Kenneth taking another job, or at least how long they'll keep it up before resetting the status quo.  Same goes for Tracey and Jenna trying to be more honest about they're feelings.  I honestly believe that won't last as long as the Kenneth story, and may never be mentioned again.

Parks and Recreation - "Operation Ann"
First things first.  I kind of like the idea of Ann and Tom.  It was pretty obvious it was not going to be Chris, and I thought it would be funny if it was Tom.  I was pleasantly surprised that they actually went through with it.  The ending made it seem like they may not pursue it any further, I hope they do, no matter how it shakes out in the end.  Ron's joy at tackling Leslie's riddles was spectacular.  For a character you think you know so well to throw a curve ball like that but then you realize it does fit perfectly, just amazing.  It's great to see that Chris totally invests himself in being depressed the same way he invests himself in everything else.  The music was great, but when he looked over at Jerry, priceless.  This is two weeks in a row April has done nice things for the two people she claims to hate the most.  I like where this is going, she's maturing while not losing her edge.

The Office - "Jury Duty"
Man, I never thought I would hate Jim and Pam.  They were the heart of this show for so long, and somehow they've morphed into this we're so awesome, everything else is crap couple.  Even when they talk about it being hard at home with two young kids they still have this air of superiority.  Jim was pretty much a douche for the entire episode, and then Pam gets to get in on the douchiness at the end.  They got off too easy in what seemed like a quick fix to finish that storyline.  Now on the other hand, Dwight finding out he's a father was wonderfully played by Rainn Wilson.  I usually don't care for Dwight storylines, but this one even started off well with him trying to uncover Jim's lies.  It then ended even better with the baby stuff, which may have been pretty obvious (I'm surprised Oscar didn't figure it out), but done well.
