Terra Nova - 1x12/13 - Occupation/Resistance

So here we are, finally at the end of the season and possibly the series.  It really wasn't a bad show so much as a disappointing show.  There was so much potential in the premise and even in some storylines introduced, but all potential was pretty quickly squandered.  It all came down to this, and once again potential was glossed over.

Terra Nova - 1x11 - Within

The penultimate episode of the the first season (possibly series, it hasn't been picked up).  Next week brings the two hour finale, and I'll finally get to stop watching.  Not that it's been all bad, it's just I definitely would not have kept watching this long if I wasn't writing about it.  I will it admit it was sometimes fun to bust on it, though.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 10

Here we are at the final one of these for the year, and unfortunately the final one of these to include Community for the foreseeable future.  Cheer up, though, it's Christmastime!  We get three yuletide flavored episodes this evening, and 30 Rock will be returning in the new year.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 9

In what seems to be becoming a tradition for me, this post is waaaaaaaay late.  I suppose a new years resolution should be to be better about getting my posts out on time.  We'll see how well that goes.  Here are my (brief due to lateness) thoughts from NBC lineup from a week and a half ago!

Terra Nova - 1x10 - Now You See Me

We're heading into the home stretch of the first season and you can feel that things are brewing.  The mole in Terra Nova is finally revealed and things are getting closer to a two way connection through the portal.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 8

"These episodes aired two week ago!" you may say.  I know, I'm super lazy, what can you do?  Anywho, on to my thoughts on old(ish) episodes!

Terra Nova - 1x08 & 1x09

I can blame the holiday, but I was mostly just lazy about writing this.  So two episodes this time around, both rather quickly.  The second of the two was actually pretty decent, too.

What I'm Thankful for on TV

There are a lot of things that annoy me about the way TV works.  Mostly about how the shows I love do horrible ratings while shows I think are horrible bring in massive amounts of people.  Most recently I discovered that while I think How I Met Your Mother has been going downhill, it's ratings keep going up.  Another one of my favorite gripes is that Parks and Recreation is doing The Office format and feel better than that show ever did, even in it's heyday, and yet The Office still does good ratings and Parks and Rec can barely stay on the air.  They're such compatible shows, I'm completely baffled that they don't pull in exactly the same numbers.  However, there are a number of things that I'm thankful for when it comes to what's on my TV.  Presented after the jump are those very things.  I'm definitely not procrastinating on writing my Terra Nova and NBC Thursday posts, why would you think that?

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 7

The Office is once again underwhelming, Park and Rec another gem, and Community has a good one this week.

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Terra Nova - 1x07 - Nightfall

Another week another blah episode.  This show is such a disappointment week in and week out.  This week an exploding meteor caused an EMP that wipes out all the electronics in Terra Nova.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 6

November sweeps have begun.  Nothing substantial this week for sweeps, though.  I'm sure they're saving the big stuff for the Thanksgiving episodes.  I'm afraid they only went one for three this week.  It was bound to happen eventually, and it's better than all three being misses.

Terra Nova - 1x06 - Bylaw

I seem to have found a schedule of getting these out just after the next episode has aired.  I've got to try and be better about that.  I'm of two minds about this episode, neither of which are particularly sane minds.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 5

Halloween night on NBC!  The comedies tonight add some scares to the mix.  Not really, but there are costumes.

Monday, October 31, 2011

Terra Nova - 1x05 - The Runaway

I got to say, five episodes in I'm just not excited to watch this show every week.  I was after the pilot, but now it almost feels like a chore to watch and write these up.  This episode actually aired two weeks ago and I just got around to watching it yesterday.  The show is still improving, so there's that, at least, it just hasn't gotten close to the high of those first two hours.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 4

I'm going to warn you up front, this week is going to be heavy on Community.  Parks and Rec and The Office had good outings as well, but neither of them scream for analysis the same way Community did.

Terra Nova - 1x04 - What Remains

This week our protagonists have to deal with a memory virus, and also dating.  It was a better episode than last week's.  At least there's that.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 3

Just under the gun again, I really have to be better about posting these things closer to when the shows air.  Anyway, three good episodes this week.

Terra Nova - 1x03 - Instinct

As I mentioned in my NBC Thursday post, I was way behind due to being out of town.  I finally caught up, so here's last week's Terra Nova post just a smidgen late.  Not a particularly memorable episode, anyway.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 2

I was out of town last weekend and I'm not close to caught up with my TV viewing yet.  I have, however, seen last week's Community, Parks and Recreation, and The Office.  Since I'm barely getting this out before this week's air, it may be a little shorter than I would like.

Terra Nova - 1x01 & 1x02 - Genesis (parts 1 & 2)

Not the best of the new shows this year, not the worst.  Certainly the one with the most hype and the most spectacle.  This project was suppose to premier last spring (a la Glee), but it kept being pushed back more and more due to special effects problems and reshoots.  The critics did not even get a finished pilot until a few weeks ago.  Now it is out for the whole world to see, and amateurs like me can pick it over, like I am about to do right now.

NBC Thursday Comedies - Week 1

Community and Parks and Recreation are two of my favorite comedies on the air.  The Office I still quite enjoy from time to time.  Since they happen to be on back to back to back, I figured I'd do a weekly post on my thoughts for all three.  Overall, no standouts in their premieres, but no duds either.

2011 New Shows - Drama

The second part of my look at some of the new shows premiering this fall.  In case you haven't already figured it out, this one is about the dramas.  Once again, onward.

2011 New Shows - Comedy

The fall season has officially begun!  I'm offering up my thoughts on some of the new comedies this season.  I'm afraid the offerings have been slim so far.  There is some promise, and one show I really like (hint: it's the picture).  Anyway, onward!

Emmy 2011 - Predictions

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards are tonight so I'm offering up who I think should win and who I think will actually win in the major categories.  Though an avid watcher, I've never tried predicting before, so I'll probably get many wrong.

Summer Finales

There were basically only three shows I was watching this Summer.  Looking back, I maybe should have gotten through more catchup stuff, but hey, it was a busy summer.  Anyway, the three shows were Louie, Wilfred, and Futurama.

Emmy 2011 - Dream vs Reality

Before the Emmy nominations were announced, I gave my thoughts on what I would have liked to have been nominated in my wonderful dream world.  Now the nominations have been announced and I've had time to think them over.  Let's see how shattered my dreams were this year and I'll give a few thoughts on the real nominations.

Emmy 2011 - Dream Ballot

Tomorrow morning the nominations will be announced for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.  Presented below are the nominations I would have picked if I actually had a say in these things.  Closer to the actual awards show I'll do another post on who I think should win from the actual nominations.  Those actual nominations will, of course, be wildly different then what you are about to read.  The Academy and I rarely see eye to eye.  I put "dream" in the title for a reason.

Doctor Who - Series 1

In case you didn't already know, I'm a nerd.  I know, the majority of my posts have been about a fantasy show, but that's on HBO, sometimes that gives nerdy things a pass.  In any case, somehow in all my nerdiness, I've never seen Doctor Who.  So instead of watching the more critically lauded series that I need to catch up on this summer, such as Breaking Bad and Curb Your Enthusiasm, I instead delved into the world of British science fiction.  Since there was no way I have the time to watch the hundreds of episodes from the first eight Doctors, I decided to start with the 2005 revival and the introduction of Chistopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor.

Game of Thrones - 1x10 - Fire and Blood

So we come to the end of the first season of Game of Thrones, and what a good season it has been.  The first few episodes were slow moving. but did a wonderful job of setting up this new world.  Any slowness of the beginning has completely vanished in the back end of this season.  Things did, however, slow down ever so slightly in this last episode.

Game of Thrones - 1x09 - Baelor

In the penultimate episode of the first season of Game of Thrones things have gone slightly mad.  War has officially begun and the goings on at the capital have even gone past Varys the Spider.  Things are just as crazy across the sea where magic seems to not have disappeared completely from this world.

South Park - Season 15, First Half

Look at that title, "Season 15."  South Park first premiered in the summer of 1997.  It's hard to believe that what started as basically four foul mouthed kids has managed to stick around this long and still be good.  If the mid-season finale is any indication, the show may not be around too much longer, or it could just be Matt and Trey pulling one over on us.  Guess we'll get a better indication in the fall.

Game of Thrones - 1x08 - The Pointy End

The original creator himself, George R. R. Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire books, has penned a very intriguing episode.  A lot of balls are in the air and things are gearing up for final two episodes.

Monday, June 6, 2011

Game of Thrones - 1x07 - You Win or You Die

Things have come to a head in this climatic episode.  Loyalties are tested and people betrayed.  It almost seemed too much for one episode to contain, hence no Tyrion or the Eyrie this week.

Finale Roundup - Part 3

In the final installment of looking at this year's finale's I finish out with Modern Family and Cougar Town.

Game of Thrones - 1x06 - A Golden Crown

After not seeing anything fantastical since the White Walkers in the first episode's opening, were starting to see the supernatural creep back into the narrative with Daenarys seemingly incapable of being burned.  We also have our first major character death, and from what I've heard, no where near the last.

Finale Roundup - Part 2

Thoughts on the season finales of Chuck, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, and Parks and Recreation.

Saturday, May 21, 2011

Game of Thrones - 1x05 - The Wolf and the Lion

This week no Jon at the Wall and no Targaryens, but the tightened focus led to the best episode so far.

Finale Roundup - Part 1

A quick look at the season finales of Justified, 30 Rock, Fringe, and Community.

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Game of Thrones - 1x04 - Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things

I'm getting later and later on these, huh?  Anyway, in the fourth episode things are creeping forward on a few plot points.  Most notably Ned's investigation and Jon's time at the Wall.

Thursday, May 5, 2011

Game of Thrones - 1x03 - Lord Snow

In these early goings Game of Thrones has to set up many characters and build a world.  This leaves another episode with little plot movement, but a lot of character work.

TV Opening Titles

I've mentioned a few times how much I love the Game of Thrones opening, and it had me thinking about how many shows are completely getting rid of openings in favor of just showing a title card to squeeze in as many commercials as possible.  It also had me thinking about TV show openings that I enjoy a lot, the ones that I wouldn't fast forward through because I liked to watch them. I've compiled a list (with video!)  to some of my favorites.

Game of Thrones - 1x02 - The Kingsroad

Things are moving forward at a slow pace in the second episode of Game of Thrones, and not much really happens.  Not that that is a bad thing, we learn more about the many characters that inhabit this world.

Game of Thrones - 1x01 - Winter is Coming

After the first episode of Game of Thrones, all I really have to say is that I want more.  Half because of the amazing cliffhanger, and half because I fell I need more to really understand what is going on.

Game of Thrones - Teaser

HBO made available online the first 12 minutes of the first episode of Game of Thrones, and I am already hooked.  First off, watch it, then rejoin me for my thoughts.

Sure, Why Not?

Anyone who knows me knows I watch a lot of television.  I also tend to see a lot of movies, not as many as I'd like.  Movies are also not conveniently beamed into my house and recorded so I can watch them anytime I wish (unless we count Netflix, but that's only after DVD release).  To supplement my viewing habits, I read a lot of online writings about TV and movies.  For a while, I've thought it would be kind of cool to do that myself, and thinking about it more and more has eventually led me to the conclusion, "sure, why not?"
